Meinhard

Although ICP was still in its infancy, Dr. James Meinhard was asked in 1973 whether he could manufacture a special glass nebulizer for an ICP spectrometer. In tests at an acclaimed laboratory the results were so overwhelming that an instrument manufacturer subsequently made it a standard part of their sample introduction system. This marked the birth of the Type A nozzle that remains popular to this day.

In 1983 J E Meinhard Associates, Inc., as the company was now known, introduced the "Type C" nebulizer for samples with a high level of dissolved solids, followed just a year later by the argon-conserving low-flow "Type K" in collaboration with an instrument manufacturer. In 1990, in cooperation with another manufacturer, The "CIR Type" was developed, enabling the operation of their mass spectrometer with helium.

In the early 1990's hybrid systems were becoming popular and J E Meinhard Associates, Inc. produced a small-bore (SB) modification in order to fulfill the wish for lower dead volume in HPLC-ICP and other hybrid techniques. Next came the High Efficiency Nebulizer (HEN), enabling microsample analysis on ICP, FIA und HPLC-ICP systems without loss of detection limits.

In 1997, in cooperation with a major university, JE Meinhard Associates, Inc. offered the innovative Direct Injection High Efficiency Nebulizer (DIHEN, US Patent 6166379). This system offers the advantages of  HEN together with the ability of nebulizing samples direct into the analytical plasma.

Today, Meinhard Glass Products continues to improve nebulizer design. The main goal is to produce finer aerosols with narrower particle-size dispersion whilst maintaing the high quality, low cost and simplicity of design and operation that characterize MEINHARD® nebulizers.

Beginning in February 2015, we are proud to offer the MEINHARD® range of quartz and glass products, compatible with instruments from leading manufacturers.
