Some of the most important characteristics of xenon short-arc lamps are their daylight colour temperature of approx. 6000 K, the continuum in the visible wavelength range, light immediately on ignition and the capability of reignition whilst still hot. The discharge arc burns under high pressure in an atmosphere of pure xenon gas.
